I remember . . .
I remember being that age with OCD. I first developed OCD when I was 11 years old. It waxed and waned but hit full-force at age 13. I didn't get help for my OCD until it had taken over every waking moment of my day at age 18. I am now 24 and my OCD is under control, but sometimes I still have what I call "flare ups" along with some lingering issues, but overall I am much better.
I may not be 14 or 15 years old any longer but I can definitely remember being that age with OCD and hiding it when it bugged me in the classroom, at friend's houses, birthday parties, slumber parties, while babysitting, ect. Aye yi yi. I hate this disorder! |

I am now 20 and it hit me in 9th grade. My OCD is very much so under control, but there's no such thing as 100% control of ocd, id say more around 97% lol. Anyway, hang in there, it definitley does suck, but you will learn its ways and contain the beast.
You have great support too! I dealt with it essentially on my own for 5 years, and I had to learn it the hard way. Good luck! |

I may be in college now, but I was an eighth grader with undiagnosed OCD once. If you need some advice from your slight elders, then give me a PM with some details and I'll help you out.
But I fully agree: eighth grade with OCD (and, generally, all types of K-12 schooling with OCD) sucks horribly, and I feel for all of you. I know how brutal it is to have such a disorder during middle and high schools, and how much it can interfere with your social life and self-image, so I feel for all of you. Don't worry; you all will survive, and it WILL get better. |

My son is in 8th grade and has OCD. I got him help right away.
I had it growing up and I didn't know what it was. I thought I was crazy. I didn't know what was happening to me. I figured it out at age 30. It was such a relief to know that I wasn't the only one suffering from this. I knew my son had OCD when he was 3. He would ask me if his ears had fallen off. He didn't seem to have too much anxiety with that but he continued to ask. Then he developed a germ phobia which caused him a bit more anxiety. That was when he was 10 yrs old. Now that he's 13 he has developed full blown OCD. I took him to the doctors right away. I knew what he had and I knew what he needed. They put him on meds. He was at the point that he wasn't functioning. The meds have helped him a great deal. I wish the best of luck to all of you!! Take care!! |
