Hi Popsi

My phobia, isnt a phobia if that makes sense?? I've found out what I really fear.
I was sexually abused when I was a child, which as lead to my fears all of which I've learnt/been learnt with other people.

I dont know about anyone else but, I think that part of the reason for these disorders is the fact that other people shape us when we are children & we just carry on going the way we go because we dont know any better as children.
It is only now as adults that we can choose to get help. Easier said than done I know But we can do it.
oops I've gone off the subject sorry lol

hope to hear from u soon

Hi

I too suffer with this, anything that i think may make me sick causes me a great deal of anxiety, and i try to avoid them at all costs. These include things such as avoiding children, as i somehow think they all carry germs, avoiding people who may have a stomach bug, hospitals, doctors surgeries and places where food may not have been prepared under an extremely high standard of hygiene.

If for some reason i have not managed to do this, all i can think about is that i will be sick and, these thoughts sometimes are bad enough for me to feel unwell. my biggest fear is that i will be unwell in the night.

If anyone has any coping strategies I would be really grateful
Thanks, Nicki x x

Hi Nicki'

Me too exactly the same thoughts as you . I've had this phobia for many years. However I have found coping strategies. I spoke to a environmental health officer & she told me it's immpossible to catch anything from someone elses house or if you're moving into a different house. I was very worried about other ppls germs & she told me "Bleach kills everything" So if your worried Nicki about anything like that just use bleach LOL I use loads of it.

It's unlikely that you'll be unwell during the night. I know it's easy for me to say, but I've found that other ppl with this phobia are very rarely unwell! I've not been sick for 16 years, we have a high resistance to being unwell.
I've found out by experience that i'm ok & I dont catch anything & am really ok, my thoughts fears simply dont come true, so I try to think thoughts like that.
I still worry but I try to not let it get out of hand & I think "Judith your still here & nothing ever happens & it wont happen, it's just fear"

I'm rambling now LOl
hope i've helped a bit
hope to hear from u soon
love Judith.x.x

Hi, I suffer from it to a moderate extent, although it seems to have improved quite a lot recently. I honestly don't know what triggered it, but it occurred about 2 years ago, and I remember I sat through a film in the cinema, in the middle of the row, constantly trying to stop feeling nauseous. As soon as I stepped outside it went away. I feel like that in restaurants too, but it seems to fade as soon as I start eating. I only get it when I worry that I might be sick and somebody will see - I never feel nauseous at home (unless I really do feel unwell).
