I have some chicken in my freezer that I want to eat. I am terrified of being sick. It was frozen and I thawed it and marinated it and I forgot it was frozen so when I didnt have time to cook it I re-forze it.

I know its bad to re-freeze food.

Do you think it would help my emetophobia to just eat it?

Wow! I thought I was the only one! i am terrified of it and I hate it so bad! I don't eat meat, I always wash my hands, and whenever someones away I have to ask them why they were away incase they had a stomach bug and then if they did I'd avoid them for ages!

I've havent been around on here lately!! there are sooooooo many of us with this phobia!!
I've had it for over 30 years I'm TERRIFIED I dont eat meat either, my diet is very poor & to make things worse the cadbury chocolate scare as frightened me cos choc is one of my safe foods!!
I wash my hands all the time too I wash them every time I touch something in the kitchen.

With me the phobia as changed over the years & in many ways as become worse & in others it seems a little better!
my worst fear now is getting contaminated & being sick through contamination.

I need some help. I suffer from emetophobia very severely. But it doesnt' have to do with me getting sick but others getting sick. I just don't understand it. I tried to explain to one of my closest friends why. But I just couldn't come up with the answer. For about a year I was fine but recently my little neighbor got sick near me and I haven't been able to go to fairs or on rides since. I can't go on airplanes. I can't go a single day without thinking about it. I'm only 14 and I don't want to suffer from this for the rest of my life. Please I need all the help I can get.

Gobananas,

I have had this fear since I was 6 years old. My fear is both of getting sick and being around others getting sick. I really wish I had understood the problem when I was your age. My BIG suggestion is do not avoid things. When you avoid doing things (i.e. going on rides) because of your fear it just reinforces the fear and makes it bigger. I know that it can be hard to endure the anxiety, but it is worth it in the long run. You are young and at the prime time to deal with this fear.

Good luck!

I also have emotophobia and I am so happy I have found more people like me. I thought I was the only one.LOL. I freak out when people around me are sick. I freak out when I start feeling sick and run to the doctor to get phenergan. When my kids get sick I worry that I am going to get sick and eventually end up worrying myself to feeling sick. Every year a bug will go around and I will go into a deep depression. I have been this way for 15 years and I wish I could live a normal life without worrying.

Woah i am so surprised that this is a phobia, i only really started feeling constantly Nausious (Sp?) the past month or so, ever since my sisters friend vomited at my house.

It really affected me and for the last month i just havn't been able to get it out of my head, it was made even worse i think because it was a weekend before i restarted the College Term for which i was already really anxious about.

I Thought at first it would go away but it hasn't and has really affected my concentration i have found Chewing alot of Gum to help with the anxiety but i am now really picky about what i eat, i am happy though that i have found out what it is and that it is just not me that suffers from it.

Gotta praise the forum for giving me alot of Info about this and seeing other 'sufferers'

It has already eased some of my anxiety after reading the 2 pages of posts posted, i'm just so relieved that i am not the only one who has this fear.

hey there reading these this have really helped me understand alot better why i do what do, ive been receiving cbt for the last 4 years and i just can't seem to take what my therapist says to me because throwing up for me really is so terrible in a way i dont think im ready to give up my ways. and like some of the others i have also been through phases of not eating and losing masses of weight unnecesarily.
For instance iff id eaten a certain type of food and been sick the same day id never eat it again. the list is getting bigger and my rituals arent going away, I think itd would be really good to get over this phobia but i really really really hate sick so much. iTs ridiculous but i just started crying yesterday because some women i didnt know said she had had a stomach bug and i was so so scared i would get it. and all of my strength couldnt stop me going home and washing my hands 8 times (my safety number).
Im really glasd to of found this site it makes every thing feel so much clearer for me x

I had no idea there was a name for this--i thought i was just crazy. I have had an obsessive fear of vomiting for years. i go nuts with worry when i see someone vomiting or when someone mentions that they vomited several days ago or that they do not feel good. i feel nauseous almost constantly, but fortunately do not puke very much--i have only puked once in high school. i didn't know there was anybody else that feared this--my friends always laugh at me when i worry about puking and wash my hands.

Wow I have finally figured out the reason for all my obsessions. Undercooked meat, rides, house parties, drinking excessively etc.
I stayed far away from my boyfriend this weekend because his roommate had a stomach bug that I could have caught. I always feel pathetic and no one takes me seriously, especially my parents whom I still live with. When I hear about someone who threw up or see it on tv or hear it, I panic. I wish I could just forget about it for a few minutes.
